About Us
Abby Rose was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 16 months. She was very lethargic and I thought she had the flu. She was extremly thirsty and had urine overflowing out of her diaper. As I gave her a bath, she drank the tub water..... Thank goodness I called the Dr and did not put her to bed. It was recommended that Abby had her accucheck done. I drove her to the hospital and her sugar was not reading anything but HIGH on the machine. She bagan to vomit and became very irratable crying for water. It turned out that Abby's blood glucose level was over 600 and her A1C was over 11. She was rushed to Lurie Childrens Hospital via ambulance and was admitted into the ICU. This was one of the worst days of our lives. Abby was poked every hour to check her blood glucose level and every other hour for bloodwork. She screamed everytime a nurse came into the room. From this point forward, our lives are forever changed. We are optomistic that Abby will overcome anything that comes in her path. She is receiving quality care and is well taken care of. She previously was receiving 6 shots a day/night. She is currently on a 24 hr insulin pump along with a 24hr continuous glucose monitor. Her A1C is the best it has ever been since diagnosis- 7.4. Challenges come our way but we adjust with what is appropriate and keep moving forward.
History of project
After many challenges of being a mother of a child with Type 1 Diabetes, I have decided to come forth to make a change. I want to begin advocating for Type 1 Diabetics, promote ANTI- Discrimination toward individuals with the disease, and raise funds for JDRF.
